E-PAO covers Participatory Theatre
PRESS RELEASE: ARTISTS FOR CAUSE ORGANIZED ITS FIRST 'PARTICIPATORY THEATRE WORKSHOP'
Ten persons participated in the workshop and there they learned to be involved in society to identify the social problems in real means.
During the whole interactive and interesting session, facilitated by Saurabh Srivastava, who have experience of more than 20 years in theatre and who worked mostly on grassroot level through theatre, participants became familiar with situations of society , various social evils and the need.
It was also felt that only problem identification should not be the motive instead providing suggestions can work better.
Devika Mittal, masters student at SAARC university and core member of Mission Bhartiyam, described that it is art that touches every heart. Stree theatres are the tools of social reform since long time and we, through participatory theatre , will try to make it more effective where issue on which we will prepare the final play, will also come from side of participant rather than facilitator. In its unique way, we will be able to learn the process of democratization of a concept and will also be able to develop thoughts through debate, discussion etc.
Soumya Prakash who held a degree in Mass Com and presently learning social philosophies through his real participation in social activities found it useful and showed his interests alongwith various inputs.
It was also observed that professionals and students were the persons who became interested in this workshop so that they can contribute to society through theatre.
Vanshree, a masters student in SAARC university raise various issues during workshop that are required to address for a social change.
Megha, an electronics and communications engineer by profession told that she would like to work woth this group as on one hand we have a social responsibility to do for our society, on another it gives self satisfaction, happiness, positive energy, personality development. Through this, we can spread awareness as well as learn.
In an interesting debate during the workshop, where every participant has to tell topics on which they would like to make first stree play, and then his/her topic discussed with all; it was found that various popular issues that were raised and discussed became null and void to be accepted as real problem, instead the real problem discovered.
At the end, Pankaj Pathak on behalf of Mission Bhartiyam conveyed his sincere thanks to all who participated. He also told that we would like to train people who want to contribute to society through theatre by this initiative.
Artists for cause actually provides a platform to people who want to get involved in social activities and who want to spread message among society through art (theatre, painting, sketching, music etc) . However artists for cause will try to work among general public through their work at public places.
PROPOSED VISIT OF 'SADBHAVNA DAL' AT KOSI KALAN, MATHURA (U.P.) TO SPREAD MESSAGE OF LOVE< PEACE< HARMONY & HUMANITY AFTER A RECENT COMMUNAL VIOLENCE REPORTED
We believe that in the country like India, where harmony and unity among diversity is the basic feature of society and where non violence, peace and love are the values that we learnt since our childhood, its our responsibility to work for the humanity to give efforts towards social integration and to make our society living and cheerful with the objective of happiness for all, whenever this basic feature of society becomes unbalance.
Now, when the incidents at kosi kalan shocked the people living in this society, we would like to visit kosi kalan with our 10 member delegation as a ' Sadbhavna Dal', just to spread message of humanity and communal harmony. During our day long visit, we will distribute pamphlets (that will give message of peace, non violence and harmony), we will sing songs of love, peace and harmony.
Delegation will include equal numbers of hindu and muslim members who are working on communal harmony at grass root level. Members may belong from Mission Bhartiyam, Sadbhavna Mission, Khudai Khidmatgar and Asha Parivar. We will not be involved in any other activity as the visit will only focus on communal harmony.
We hope that this initiative will also help the efforts of district administration towards the peace and harmony.
Please note that in case you require, as a security reasons and requirements of district administration, we are ready to provide a list of our proposed members who will visit (with their name and address), we are ready to produce identity cards, we are also ready to provide our pamphlets that will be distributed and list of songs that will be sung by members.

A note on Biomass Energy: Barriers and Pitfalls
Energy is the key factor on which the economy of the nation is dependent. In a country like India which is a developing country the major dependence of the economy is on industrialization which is in turn dependent on availability of quality power. Indian Power sector has been growing at a good pace but still there has been a significant gap between the demand and supply of electricity. The period post Electricity Act 2003 has witnessed a lot of policy measures from government aimed at providing electricity to all and rationalization of pricing and improvement of efficiency and quality through invoking competition in the sector. Some of the recent highlights of the sector are as follows:
Total Installed Capacity (As on 30.04.2012) : 2,01,637 MW
Per Capita Consumption : 783Kwh (Global Average2300 Kwh)
Coal has been the dominant source of supply in India contributing around 65% of the total share in the total installed capacity. The disadvantage of too much dependence on a single source has recently highlighted the loop holes of the energy security. Changes in the global pricing regulations of coal and availability of domestic coal have nearly brought the sector to a halt. But the question is that whether we have any alternate source to compensate coal. The answer in the Indian context is still no. No doubt solar and wind energy are clean technologies but they are totally dependent on natural phenomenon and have inbuilt disadvantages such as inefficiency in inter state transfer and forecasting.
Biomass
Biomass has also bee identified as a renewable source of energy by MNRE and several policies have been laid down by government such as CFA and feed in tariff but there has still not been substantial improvement in the sector with huge potential for improvement. The main reason has been the financial viability of the projects being set up under various regulatory schemes of the biomass sectors.
Some of the suggestions to improve the viability are as follows;
v The ERCs' and IREDA guided by Section 86(e) of Electricity Act 2003 and Tariff Policy have been laying down policies to promote the renewable energy sector, but the main emphasis has been on Solar and wind technologies. Although biomass has also been backed up with feed in tariff through higher return on equity as compared to conventional tariff but at the same time the issues to be addressed are the initial capital cost of the project and as well as the cost of the fuel used. The fuel price has been fixed by ERCs' on state level but what actually is happening that suppose state A is having a price of fuel lesser than state B thus in order to bring the financial viability to the project the State B imports fuel from state A thus giving rise to increase in demand of fuel in State A accompanied with increase in price of fuel in State A also. The possible mechanism that can address this issue would be an Administered Price Mechanism for the biomass fuel wherein government intervention would be required to fix price of the fuel.
v The wind and solar energy project enjoy a must run status irrespective of the capacity which means that they will not be subjected to Merit Order Dispatch but Biomass plant with capacity above 10 MW are subjected to Merit Order dispatch and in case of the grid disturbance due to their higher tariff these project would be asked to back down leading to loss in generation and revenue for the developer. In the either case if the developer goes for a plant less than 10 MW he will not be able to get the advantage of the Economies of Scale. The biomass project have been approved by MNRE as clean technology therefore they must also be given the status of must run status.
v The Biomass projects also form part of the renewable resources which can be utilized for RPO compliance by distribution utility. Technologies like solar and wind are being given a Generation Based Incentives for generation which has shifted the focus from capacity addition to generation which has significantly contributed to reduction in CO2 emissions in the country. Similar incentives should also be there for biomass plant.
