Srinagar, May 12: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued show-cause notice to Centre and J&K Government over the killing of a youth in Boniyar area of Uri by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel in January this year.
Altaf Ahmad Sood, 22, was shot dead by CISF men when people were protesting against shortage of electricity in the area.
The Commission, which took cognizance of the killing on the complaint of Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan, President, Manavadhikar (Emergency Helpline Association) and Ravi Nitesh (Mission Bhartiyam),has asked for a report from Director General CISF and Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla over the matter.
The killing had evoked strong demonstrations in Uri area prompting the state government to order an inquiry and register a case against CISF men.
Sood, according to locals, was not part of the protest demonstration against power shortage and was passing through the area when he was shot dead.
Later police charge-sheeted five CISF men before Judicial Magistrate Boniyar, who committed the same to Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla.

But the accused were not charged under section 302 RPC (murder). As per the charge-sheet, one of the personnel has been charged under section 304 RPC, the remaining four have been charged under section 308 RPC.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had termed the killing as murder. "I have no doubts that Altaf was murdered," the CM had said.
The CM had also accused CISF of using excessive force, which was "unwarranted and inexcusable."

Omar had even said government will spare no effort in ensuring exemplary punishment to the CISF personnel responsible for the killing.

" We are dedicated for social welfare through sustainable development approach"

Artists for Cause

An artist expresses himself through his art. We can see colours but an artist feels them, talks with them. He makes sense of his surroundings, his life, his own emotions and the society through colours, exploring their intensity. For him, the problem and the solution lie in colours.

In prehistoric times, art was a form of magic. The artist felt himself as a magician who through his art would make what he wanted to achieve. They would not only recreate but would also try to create new things.

We, at Mission Bhartiyam, would try to build a platform for the art magicians to exercise their magic. They can sketch and act. These artists can add colours not only to the canvas but also to the society.

We plan to build a platform for young artists of the various fields of art (painting/sketching/acting etc) to send out a message for our society through their art. We plan to organize street painting, paintings in lawns and nukkad nataks to spread awareness in society on various social issues.

So if you are an artist, who has a heart for social causes, then you are invited to join us.

Please note:

·         We will organize, on an average, one event per month (it may become frequent as per the wish of the artists, response of the public and availability of funds)

·         We will not be able to provide any remuneration to artists because Mission Bhartiyam is a people's initiative and is not funded by any agency. (However in future, on availability of funds , we may provide some kind of reimbursements)

·         A professional degree is not required but the passion for art and social work is what we are looking for.

·         Artists will receive the credits/recognition in the events in which they will participate.

·         Presently this initiative is not for photographers; however they can send their request too as we will involve them in near future.

Thanks,

Mission Bhartiyam

KARGIL FILM FESTIVAL

The first Kargil Film Festival is being organized from 19th May 2012. Applicants can send their films to the festival till 15th May 2012. For more information, log on to www.kargilfilmfestival.tk

Awam Ka Cinema is organizing its first Kargil Film Festival from 19-20 May 2012. Meaningful cinema that focuses on social issues rather than monetary has very limited audience which is often scattered and distributed across the different parts of the world. It becomes difficult for the filmmakers to reach out to such audience with this cinema. It is with this thought as the driving force that Awam Ka Cinema has been making relentless efforts for the past three years to organize the film festival in Kargil. It will be the first cultural festival of its kind in the history of Laddakh region. Some remarkable and meaningful films will be showcased during the festival. This film festival will prove to be an unusual gift for the people of Laddakh. The festival will also be an opportunity for the people from other states to enjoy good cinema in the midst of peaceful environment and scenic beauty of Laddakh.

Awam ka Cinema is organized as well as sponsored by a group of like minded friends. It had first started as a humble initiative in Ayodhya in 2006 and since then it has been making constant efforts to bring a wave of social and cultural change in the society. As a part of this initiative, we have organized film festivals in Ayodhya, Mau, Jaipur, Aurayya, Itawah, Delhi and Kashmir. The main motive behind this initiative has been to create a dialogue between people from different sections of society and country through the medium of art and cinema. This will open up a platform for people to express, share and understand each others joys and sorrows, situation and condition in life, a platform that will have infinite space for humanity. In an age and time when the pillars of democracy such as the parliament, legislature and even the media are ambitious about money rather than for the genuine issues of the people, the only hope for the people to develop cultural unity is through such efforts. It is only through people's mass movement that these institutions will realize and undertake their responsibility towards the citizens. The most important step to achieve this would be by creating a dialogue between the people.

Awam Ka Cinema has left no stones unturned to achieve this goal. We have also reached out to get the help and support from the well wishers and lovers of good cinema to create a platform for the making of good cinema. This initiative has been successfully organized without any sponsors so far and will continue to do so in the future.

We invite you to participate and support us in our efforts to raise people's issues and bring them to the forefront.
