Conclusion of Tree for Harmony and celebration of World Peace Day at India Gate, Delhi

Mission Bhartiyam, A&A, FACT celebrated World Peace Day

In a bid to spread the word of peace, harmony and brotherhood and also awareness about environment, Mission Bhartiyam, A&A (Art and Architecture group) and FACT(Federal Alliances of Creative Talents) had organised a gathering of artists, photographers and musicians, today i.e. 21st September, in India Gate lawns.

The event involved competitions for painting, sketching, photography and waste material utilization techniques. The themes were environment and peace.

This event was the second gathering of A&A fans in India and had taken place simultaneously in 15 countries. It has to be organized every year to spread awareness about the twin challenges of environment and peace through art.

Prashant Nautiyal, of A&A, remarked that “Art is an effective medium to communicate information to the masses. It is attractive and appeals to anyone.” Rohit Bhardwaj added that “so we used this form to communicate about the twin challenges of environment and peace among the common masses.”

With this event, FACT, an organisation of young artists, will display their works among the common masses.

Rajneet Fidato, of FACT, remarked that “this will not only encourage the young talents but it will also make art more effective.”

Paramjeet Singh remarked that “we cannot move ahead without peace and social harmony”.

Harmony Tree at India Gate

With this event, Mission Bhartiyam, an India-based NGO, had also concluded its “Tree for Harmony” event. “Tree for Harmony” event involved planting trees labeled as “harmony trees” to spread the word of peace, harmony and prosperity in South Asia. “Harmony trees” also stood for communal harmony and against discrimination on grounds of caste, class, gender and religion. This event started with the “World Ozone Day” which was on 16th September and was done in schools, colleges, public places in four countries – India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Aditya Dubey, of Mission Bhartiyam, said that “like trees, which grows freely and in everyone’s house, we should not discriminate against anyone and we should all grow together”. Pankaj Pathak talked about the south asian essence to the event. He remarked, “Without peace with our neighbors, we cannot work for peace and prosperity within our country”.

We had also planted a “harmony tree”. It was planted by eminent poet Kumar Anupam and Satish Mehra, who had been involved with tree plantation for 35 years.

We had organized our event in India Gate lawns because the idea was to spread the message across the common masses and to tell them, what they can do to change the world. We had also distributed pamphlets suggesting simple ways to work for a sustainable environment. Some people had also joined in the effort and participated in the art-based activities related to peace and harmony.

M.Reza Z. Karfar, an Iranian student in Jamia Miliya Islamiya and a member of A&A concluded with the note that “without peace within our hearts, we cannot talk about world peace”.

TREE FOR HARMONY 16 SEP (World Ozone Layer Day) - 21 SEP (World Peace Day)

TREE FOR HARMONY 16 SEP (World Ozone Layer Day) - 21 SEP (World Peace Day)

-A South Asian Initiative for Peace, Harmony & Environment

We aim to initiate friendship, brotherhood and peace in the entire South Asia. And for this, we turn to "our evergreen friends" – trees. What can be more symbolic of these values than a tree? A tree grows freely, digs its roots deeply and also gives life to other trees. It is a symbol of stability, growth and prosperity.

A tree also grows freely, without any discrimination. And this is the message that we want to send. Like trees, we should do away with barriers of caste, religion, ethnicity and national boundaries. Like trees, we should grow together. So this event has a national as well as international essence to it.

Mission Bhartiyam proposes "Tree for harmony" event to be held in schools across South Asia. In the event, trees labeled as "harmony trees" will be planted by students. Any other event like a march, a seminar, artistic ways like painting, music etc to spread the word of peace, harmony, brotherhood may also follow/ accompany it. In Delhi (India), Tree for Harmony will be concluded with an event of India Art and Architecture group wherein they will paint to communicate the goals of peace and a harmonious and sustainable environment among the general masses on India Gate. In Bangladesh, a seminar and a human chain/rally will be held in Matamuhuri Degree College. The event will start on 16th September which is also the World Ozone day and will conclude on 21st September which is the World Peace Day. Environment is also a common challenge for all South Asian Countries.

So by this event, the twin challenges of environment and the need for peace will be addressed. By this event, we plan to develop a "South Asian" consciousness.

"Tree for harmony" will be organized in Pakistan under "Aaghaz-e dosti" which is our Indo-Pak initiative and in Nepal under the "Bharat Nepal Paraspar Samvad" which is already in operation.

We invite you/your organization/school to be a part of this drive. We will acknowledge all such partners/supporters who participated in this drive. Please plant trees named as "harmony trees". Any other related event is optional. You can invite local media/persons in your event. Share your experiences , photographs, newsclips etc with us at our email.

In India, this event is being organised in J&K (Bilal Sultan, Tahir), Orrisa (Sibaprasad Ji), Madhya Pradesh (Ashok Lodi, Rupesh Pandey) & Uttar Pradesh (Raj Shekhar Chandola, Ashutosh, Praveen) and can be extended to all other states as well.

INVITATION: HUMAN CHAIN FOR UNITY AND HARMONY: INDIA GATE 26 AUGUST 5:30 PM

HUMAN CHAIN FOR UNITY AND HARMONY at 5:30 PM INDIA GATE

Respected friends,

We were all sitting in our homes relaxed when a part of India was burning but then the flames also started spreading in other parts of India. We are talking about the tragic situation in Assam which ultimately send heat waves across India by forcing the North eastern people to flee back to their native places. The Assam riots had began as a clash between the natives and the settlers and then a  debate between natives and illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in North East and ultimately, got a communal flavor. There were rumours across the country threatening to attack north eastern people and forcing them to go back to their native places.

We, as citizens of this country and as human beings, condemn this. We condemn the shock, the pain, the terror that the North Eastern people have to face. We also condemn these riots and violence in all forms.

We empathise with the people of North East and to show our solidarity and extend our support to them, we will form a human chain on India Gate on this sunday i.e. 26th August

We request you to join us.

Place: India Gate

Time: 5:30 PM

Please bring a message printed on a white sheet and a safety pin to attach it on your t-shirt.

Bharat-Nepal Paraspar Samvad Yatra

17th-18th August Kushinagar(India) to Lumbini(Nepal)
India and Nepal are the two countries in South Asian which truly reflects what being a “South Asian” can mean. With the border that allows people to move freely, it sends out a message of peace, harmony, love and most importantly, trust. This bond, not boundary, also promotes and protects basic human rights and human desire to communicate, interact and travel for the hope of a better life.
Mission Bhartiyam would like to celebrate this bond and send a message to SAARC that such a bond of trust can be extended in the entire South Asian region. For this, Mission Bhartiyam has decided to organize a ‘Bharat- Nepal Paraspar Samvad Yatra’ on 17-18 August from Kushinagar (India) to Lumbini (Nepal) to celebrate this bond and also to send a message that this bond of trust can also be extended in the entire SAARC region. We have chosen Kushinagar and Lumbini because they are Buddhist sites of pilgrimage because that is one of the cultural links that we share and because Buddha and his teachings (Buddhism) promote the feelings of love, peace, non-violence and brotherhood. From this journey, we will formally start our SAARC initiative for peace and harmony and in coming years we will organize such peace marches in other SAARC nations too.
This journey will also extend our support and brotherhood with our neighbor and through this journey we are also giving them faith and assurance that we, the people of India, are always here to support them and to fight with them to combat similar challenges.

Bharat-Nepal Paraspar Samvad

Borders are always an issue of conflict. Sometimes, due to the desire of a state to expand its territory, they are important to keep a check and maintain one’s sovereignty and being. Everywhere, we find thick physical lines. But in spite of these forced (forced because the human nature, the human “spirit” does not like such boundaries) boundaries imposed upon us, there boundaries are unable to separate us completely. Still it is true that rivers flow from one to another by crossing boundaries, mountains spread over one to another and so are the emotions of human.
In fact, these political boundaries are in a broader view violation of human rights too. It is because, Nature has made no boundaries. ‘We all are born equal and free ‘(stated Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and thus any such restrictions are against human nature. People cross boundaries legally and illegally, sometimes in search of employment, a better education, sometimes in search of a safe haven, in hope of a better life and sometimes just for the leisure of travelling. This reflects the basic nature of humans and thus the right it should have. Though, like all other debates, there will be a certain group of people who will favor the boundary and restriction, however, for a common human being, it is not important and is infact, illogical to be confined.
But there is a border of exception. In the South Asian Region there lies a boundary between two countries, but it gives the message of love, peace and mutual development rather than hate, and restrictions. It is more towards freedom rather than binding a person in a confined political boundary. It is like a bond of trust. This is the border between India and Nepal. India and Nepal are similar in many ways. There is a deep cultural bond that binds people. But the best part of our mutual relation lies in our borders that are free to citizens of both countries. On the other side, Nepal has restricted border with China. Similarly, India too has restricted borders with all other neighbors.
When it comes to movement, it is also observed that movements to/from Nepal/India are quite frequent among the citizens. This free border is not only helpful in trade and economical growth by getting benefit of two different market, but also become helpful in establishing a theme of love and understanding among each other.

At the time when all countries of SAARC are facing the same challenge of development, hunger, poverty, unemployment, illegal migration and others, we have made our borders more restricted for our people. Though, this restriction may act positively for some reasons but this positive effect is limited and affects only one country and certainly will not benefit the whole region. On the other side, if all SAARC countries can join each other towards the path of growth, together, it can definitely benefit all the countries.

Nepal and India border, in these terms, present an example that can not only bring the attention of SAARC region on any such concept but also present a live and successful example of sharing fluid boundaries.

Mission Bhartiyam, an India-based not for profit group, hopes to realize this dream. Since 2007, it
has been working for an overall development of society through advocating for Environment, Education, Communal Harmony, Employment, Health, Disaster Management, Women & Child Rights, Human Rights, Youth affairs and other social issues. It has also been a partner organization in a national campaign for Manipuri poet Irom Sharmila who has been on a hunger strike for 11 years. But the mission is really to revive the values of peace, harmony and brotherhood that are revered in South Asian sensibilities, plans to help and build such ties.
We desire for a SAARC with enhanced people to people communication, with love and trust and freedom from hatred and suspicion. We want that no-one should be jailed for the desire of transcending barriers for the good.
Under our SAARC initiative, in the past, in 2011, Mission Bhartiyam was a partner organization in the Indo-pak human chain at Rajghat(New Delhi). We now plan to build stronger ties with Nepal. We would like to work on issues and challenges which are common to both countries. We would like to tell our Nepali brothers that we will always support them and fight along with them to combat similar challenges. We would like to celebrate this concept of border and also to send a message that this bond of trust can also be extended in the entire SAARC region.
